We are currently recruiting graduate students for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025!

Are you interested in? How and why viruses emerge and spillover from animals hosts in the Anthropocene? What are the molecular, organismal and ecological mechanisms of spillover?

Do you have? Experience or a drive to learn: disease ecology and evolution, molecular virology, bioinformatics, ecoimmunology, phylodynamics, or genomics.

If you'd like to inquire about opportunities for joining the lab, please email Nichola.

Our lab offers MS and PhD programs in Biology and Integrative Biosciences at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

  • US and International students are welcome to apply.

  • Must include a copy of your CV.

  • Must include a short proposal of a research idea you want to study.

  • Please include the subject line: “Graduate student applicant”

Thanks! The VirusPlus Lab looks forward to hearing from you and discussing ways to drive impactful research that will make a difference to animals, humans and the planet!

Common Terns at a breeding colony on Buzzard Bay in Massachusetts. This pair of terns are protecting their young from any would-be predators (usually gulls, eagles or hawks). We sample this colony for viruses and monitor their health each year. Turn up the volume to hear them in action!
